Intake question

Just swapped in an early 80's 200 to replace the worn out 170. At the front of the intake, on top of the log, is a hose connection that I don't know what to do with. When I got the engine, it had already been removed, so I don't know where the hose went. Wondering if it's even necessary to have it hooked up or maybe I should just cap it off?

Howdy JC:

You can cap it off or find current uses for it. It was there for the 80's controls and vacuum switches which you probably don't have in your vehicle. It is a handy location for permanently mounting a vacuum guage as a mileage reminder.

Don't leave it open or it will bite you on the "A" later... take it out and plug it... the reason it might not have done anything open / closed is it is most likely a thermo vaccum tree... meaning it doesn't open up the vacuum untill the motor reaches running tempiture.. best to plug it..

JC, How large is this opening?? Just to be sure, since there is a 1/2" opening just behind the thermostat housing that is for a heater hose that goes through the carb spacer (that sits under many carbs). This 1/2" opening is actually below the log, so the previous posts are more than likely correct!
