Kelly's new Intercooler

While Kelly's off in Phoenix learning new stuff for her work.....I'm at home tearing up her car. :D
Today I installed a MUCH larger IC and an electric H2O pump. The reason for the pump is because the cooling fan needs to go where the engine driven pump use to be. Even then there won't be but .100" between the fan and the balancer.
But it's going to be bitchin'!!!
The installed IC measures 22"x9"x3".

The black IC on the right is the old one that was located in the wheelwell.
The other IC is one that will be for sale by FSPP. It's 19"x9"x2". It'll be able to handle 350hp without a problem. The larger brother that's installed in Kelly's Falcon can flow enough to handle 550hp.

let's be friendly to the dial up folks, a link works just as well as posting the pics
;)

hehehe not too much bigger than mine is.... my big problem is I put a wide rataitor in and now I gond't have alot of room for running my tubing to the IC. I might have to put in a new radaitor that is a little narrower to be able to fit is all in there. my tanks are WAY oversized though on it

lookin awesome!!! Do you have any vids of the car you can post?? the one on turbo mustangs dosen't work. thanks

Jon,
If you go to the Eye Candy forum a link is posted to a video from the Southern Arizona Mustang Club drag race. The subject is listed as Video of Kelly's falcon....
Hope this one works for you.

6bangerwanab,
The intake side of the IC is on the passenger side, outlet on the drivers.
I will rotate the compressor housing so that it points down under the area where the battery tray used to be. I'll drill a hole large enough to put a 2.5" pipe through. The piping will leave the turbo and go through the pass. side wheelwell up to behind the front bumper where the IC is located.
On the IC outlet side the piping will also go into the wheelwell area then up to the existing hole where the old IC was located. The 3" intake pipe in the engine compartment will remain the same for now.
The beauty of it is that you'll see less plumbing than before.
The only problem with this is that the electric fan will not currently fit between the harmonic balancer and the radiator. So we're working on a fix for that.

Jon,
Here's a link to a video. It's a slow pass though! :D

that new IC should help a bunch.

What do folks think of a water cooled IC ? I guess the needed pump , resivoir and other parts would add a bit of weight to the car.

A lot more than you might think. The guys that run them aren't in it for fun anymore, they are out for blood (if class rules let them)

You can get really insane low intake charge temps when you are running alcohol and dry ice through the intercooler. Frost develops on the outside even on hot days.

Air/water ICs work great right up until the water temp rises up to the temp of the compressed air.
Air/water ICs don't do to well on the street, unless you want to stop at a convience store every couple of miles to put more ice in the tank.
