To paraphrase (ie bastardise) your saying on your proflie:-

If you want a Groan, then Root a BW40 by driving it like a manual!

In my experience, Ford Oz set the box up for maximum acceleration when the foot goes down. It will up shift at 5300 rpm on the old XD 4.1's (check Wheels May 1979, where they did just that on an engine with a 4800 rpm red line). Mine does too.

The only time I use manual type slam tactics is when I want engine breaking down hill. One day its going to EXPLODE. Can't wait till I get a change to drop my AOD trans and 3.7:1 gears in it then!

heh. the old M40 in my XE wouldnt shift down like that. But then again, I never took the time to adjust the kickdown...

But, I wasn't looking back on swapping the C4 in - that Borg-Warner box sucked the life out of it something cruel!

damn!!! id better stop driving i tlike a manual...... i do all the bloody time!! :( its much more fun that way.... it doesnt seem to mind 80kmph in first..... and the sound when u drop it from a bit over a hundred back into 2nd is awesome.... well ii dont have the muny to fit a c4 so yet so i guess ill start being nicer to my warny :(

3-400 bucks to change to a C4????? thats heaps better than i thought....

the change could be closer than first thought..... it made sum bad noises at me last nite..... is it worth buying a recond c4 or just try and find a "good" second hand one?? is it hard to fit myself?? i assumed i couldnt do it.... does it bolt straight up or do i have to change several other bits?

If you can at all persuade someone to loan you a little space in the garage, buy a C4, flexplate and converter. Leave it there until you can afford to service or reco it.

Adam.

You'll also need a Fairlane / LTD shifter and linkage, from a C4 equipped vehicle. Think 302. tailshaft will fit, you'll need to get creative on the neutral safety switch and reverse mechanism, the plugs are the same, but the wiring is different. You may also want to invest in a transmission cooler. You'll also need crossflow trans coolant lines.

apart from that, any 250-2V car (cortina or falcon) will bolt straight up. XC or XD C4 cars will also suit well
