How big of a heatsink do you need (anyone know for sure) for the HEI module? Right now I have a 1/4" barstock about 6" long. I had a CPU heatsink, but the module wouldn't fit on it, so I removed it.
On my F250 I used chunk out of bottom of a junked cast aluminum skillet.
On my Ranger I just used some cast aluminum bracket that Ford had used for some crap that no longer existed on the OEM engine. I never saw the weight or strength advantage of aluminum brackets over well engineered stamped steel brackets but car makers went for aluminum bigtime in the 80s.
it was painted, i just took a 3M abrasive disc and cleaned all the paint off before i put it on, i wanted to make sure i had a good ground (the screws holding the ignition module down need to be grounded, make sure the rest is as well)
but yeah, the flash is bad
i looked around to find a decent pic, but didn't really have one
I had one that was a little bigger than the module & about 1/2" high to tip of fins... no good. I had two so I doubled them up, no good!
Now I have one that is about 2" wide by about 4" long, base plate is about 4-5mm thick & the fins are about 2" high.... that sorted it! Very cheap from an electronics outlet. They were random stock they had.
