METAL SHAVINGS IN BLOCK

Is there any way to get rid of the metal shavings? or should i just go with a 302? Iv spent about $1000.00 on my inline 6 and some how the bearings got all chewed up and metal shavings are everywhere. I got a 302 out in the garage that i could build up. Any ideas?

I did What happened was I got the wrong size rod bearings. O well shit happens

Sounds like the bearings were a little tight. Who put it together. If you go with the 302 don't have the same place or person rebuild it. You could end up with the same problem

Well heres what I would do.

Scream, cuss, throw stuff around the garage for a few minutes, go calm down.

Then I would drain the oil, pull the motor, flip it upside down, pull the crank, have crank redone and get correct bearing and reassemble.

Then I would change the oil with something lightweight and flush the system to try and remove contaminents. Then I would change oil again and get a drain plug with the magnet in it to try and pull out any lingering contaminents.

After that i think you'd probably be okay.

Just to add, make sure your block aint junk...those bearings possibly could have damaged it.

8) i would go further than anlushac does, i would tear the motor down to bare block and give it a thorough cleaning. then throw things around the shop, calm down and do the other things he suggested. when you decide to throw things i would recomend empty oil bottles. they get some good distance, make a satisfying noise when they hit, and do little damage.

We all have to let off steam... I believe AzCoupe kicks the cats - all 2,345 of them.

But, yeah, the particles should flow back down to the pan, and be trapped by either the mag plug or the filter. If in doubt, flush it downwards with kerosene in a squirt can, before reassembly.
