Metric Motor Mounts

Yeah you read that right... The lower studs on 1 of my two new motor mounts are metric!!!! Of course I found this out after it was installed. Couldn't get the nut to thread on, so I pulled it backed off and after trying to file it and chase the threads, I got a wild idea and pulled out a metric nut. Yep, no problems once I got past the chewed up threads I did by trying to get a 5/16 nut and tap onto it.

The reason I'm changing mounts is one of the mounts collapsed about 1/2" - 3/4" of an inch. And my motor was tapping on the belly bar. (See Clankity-Klunk post) And to make matter worse, now that the mounts are correct and the motor up and level, it changes the position of the rearend of the tranny and my custom shifter linkage to mount a Mustang shifter will no longer fit.

Not happy right now............................

You found out the cruel joke of the 60/61 motor mounts. You carefully save the original nice jam nuts from the original mounts. You carefully thread them up and - WTF !! _ Strpped ? . It's been mentioned that in a few posts and I found out from my '61 Comet. The mounts I have are stamped THAILAND. I keep thinking there's a stash of early roundbodies there and parts are readily available...

PS It's not too hard to shape your tunnel with the BFH and some persuasion...

After closer inspection of the old failed mount, it completely seperated. I was able to pull the thing apart by hand. Luckily, it was on the right hand "downward torque" side.

So between the failing mount (only 5 yrs old) and the metric mount, are these the only mounts available??? Does someone make a decent Heavy Duty mount??? ( New product for AzCoupe!!??)

As for the tranny linkage, I think I have that figured out. I want to take a BFH to it,,, but it's trying to get the linkage to snake up between the tranny and the frame/undercarriage. I ended up having to shorten the linkage and move the shifter up about an inch on the tunnel. I also had to grind a small chunk off off the tranny housing by the speedo. Luckily I found this all out now cause I'm waiting on the bodyshop to to bring my car in and have new floorpans and was going to have the shifter welded in along with a custom center hump.

Still not happy... but feeling much better
