After months of talking with a foundry here in Buenos Aires I recieved a package in the mail today with my first sample head (for those who don´t know, I´m still in Argentina). Inside - a brand new SP (Special Performance) casting (only 5 days old!!!). So far I am very impressed with the quality. The head is ready to run with just some valve hardware. It has the valve seat inserts and guides already fitted (bronze on the exhaust), all bolt holes and water fittings drilled, tapped, and cleaned, the springs seats are already machined... it´s gorgeous.
I am meeting with the company in person next week to discuss getting 15 of these on a boat towards the states. I have different sources for exhaust headers, but still haven´t made a deal to have some intake manifolds made. Original SP intakes are very scarce.
A couple weeks ago I also found a piston manufacturer for the TC racers here and I picked up a set of these forged beauties:
The sweet deal with these are the strength in the design combined with light-weight, floating pin, and different pin height configurations available. I´m looking at using 2.0L and 2.3L Pinto rods with the shorter pin pistons. Combined with the SP head it should make a screamer out of a 200 engine.
