msd 6a with DS2?

i found a used msd 6a box for $75, im planning on getting a DS2 and a blaster 2 coil. ive seen these boxes used with the durasparks, how hard is it to wire them, is it worth it- as opposed to the ds2 module. how much will a ds2 module cost? (im buying a refurb ds2 that doesnt come with the module)

I think the wiring diagrams are available on the MSD web site for hooking up the box as stand alone or in conjunction with the stock box too (I don't know what the difference would be). I used a Mallory HyFire 6a (basically the same as the MSD) wired with the stock box, opened the plug gap to .050 with 8mm wires and my engine had never idled or ran so good in it's life before. Even idled down to 500 rpm there was not even a quiver.

Get the harness that Scott-mustang 6 links via summit, just use that adapter from the ds2 to the msd, do not even use the ford ds2 box at all.
Then per the other diagrams hook up the coil to the msd.
Works great & when shopping at summit you can chose what rpm rev limiter you want.
If the msd was on a six cylinder the box does not have to be touched, HOWEVER if it was on a 4 or 8 cylinder engine before see the msd instructions as certain color wires have to be cut in the msd box.
See the msd instructions & that is the only careful change you might have to make.
I had a defective msd to ds2 adapter where the polarity was reversed & caused all kind of weird problems. After cutting the adapter wires & reversing them the unit performs perfectally.
How does it compare the the DUI???? The main deal with all distributors is the advance curve. You will love the conversion, Bill

sweet, thanks for all the responses. im gonna get the box and then ill get a DS2, hes also selling a blaster 2 coil- ill see if i can talk him into throwing it in and save me $40.

it wasnt on a 6 cylinder it was on a 5.0, but im sure i can find the instructions and some diagrams.

I think the hardest thing you'll have to do is get 12V to the ignition. On mine, I had to bypass/replace the (pink, iirc) resistor wire between the ignition switch and the firewall plug, then I had full 12V under the hood.

But that's on a '62 Ranchero, ymmv.

With the MSD 6 box you dont have to get rid of the resistor wire. All the old wire (with the resistor) does it tells the box to turn on. The power for the box and the spark come from the heavy red wire that you are supposed to fuse and hook fairly direct to the battery.

A note to anyone that is using or thinking about using points to trigger one. Dont bother if you live in an area that can be damp! The low current it takes to trigger the box is not enough to burn off any moisture that may build up on the points. In my boat (owned for 12 years now) I never had and issue with points getting cruddy and causing it not to start. In the last 2 years with the 6 box in there I have had to polish up the points 3 times now. Im in MN where it can get damp. It may work fine if you live in the desert. Im going to find some electronic pickup for next season because I like everything else the box does. Other side note, make sure the key is off if you are anywhere near any part of the system!!!! That thing makes a heck of a spark (and a lot of em). Its not a quick snap or series of snaps like a fairly stock single spark. It will knock you on your ass. Dont even think of hanging onto a wire and holding it close to ground to test for spark. You can actually hear the thing buzz when its firing the coil.
