i don't know what muffler i want to put on my mustang 250? anyone have any good ideas witch will give me the best sound and performance?

I have yet to do the exhaust on my car but a few have used flowmaster 50 series, and then the 40 series, all but 1 have said it was a pretty deep throaty sound, and the other said it wasnt as deep as they would have liked, but this is all opinion, oh and what did you want it to sound like?

i was looking for a throaty loud sound so i think the 40 series is what i'm gonna go for.

I have flow 40s on my 200. I love the sound, they are deep at low revs, but very loud at high revs. One note, at high revs, the pitch will be higher than what a V8 would sound like.

For performance a cherybomd I think would work best but very loud.

As for sound, the flowmaster is probably your best bet.

But the last 3 feet of your exhaust isn't going to affect performance very much.

i have cherrybomb on it right now and it's to quiet as it is i need something louder. the flows sound like a good idea.

hey 25069mustang, I have a cherrybomb also, does it sound nasty like mine? kinda like what you would expect an old rusted out buicks exhaust to sound like? not loud just nasy, mines quiet also, except when it resonates at a certain note at low rpms.

I have only 3 1/2 ft of 2 inch pipe with a cherybomb and it's mellow at idle but very loud on exceleration. Most of the time it's so loud you can't hear the buzz can on the four bangers next to me at the light on take off.

If you search around my old posts on exhaust you would think I was working directly with flowmaster, but I am what you could call, the "Unofficial Flowmaster Guy". I have 50 series flows on mine and there is no way you would guess it was a six. Everyone keeps asking me what I have and when I tell them, they think Im lying until I pop the hood. I have also convinced my cousin, and just recently a friend to put flowmasters on their vehicles, and they are both more than happy. One with a v6 Tacoma and the other with a 4 banger civic. I have yet to hear anything close to them on out sixes, but like it was stated above, its all preference and opinion

The loudest your gonna get is most likely gonna be from a glasspack. Heres what you should do, (it will be a lot louder with one outlet) have the pipe cut about 2 feet in front the the back wheels, then weld on the glasspack. For maximum loudness, have another pipe about 6" or so, and have it bent pointing down..that way the noise bounces off the street and the decibles go all around. Right now I have dual out and i have 2 cherry bombs on, sounds really sweet. Its not that loud at all, but when I feel like revving it, man its awesome. I have 'em both cut infront the the rear wheels

no mine sounds good cause it has stock 2 inch pipe so it's mellow and deep just not loud.

are you running dual flows or just a single? is there any resonance? I am going to try a single in 2.5" and dual out 2" 50 series. the 40 series single in/out that i have now is to loud for me. I am hoping the 50 will be quieter but still give me a nice sound. i am just worried about the resonance at certain rpms being to loud.

thanks
John

after switching from a glasspack to a 40 series flowmaster on my six, im won over by flowmaster. dont think ill ever even think about having anything else on one of my cars. it sounds nice and deep but isnt that loud at all in my opinion.

Im not sure what everyone is talkin about resonance wise, with the 50's I have, I hear none at all with the windows up. I have dual 50s, 2.5 in and out. I LOVE the sound all over the RPM range and wouldnt give it up for the world!!!!!

i have a hooker collector off my cliffy dual out going into 2.5 then into a flowmaster single in dual out american thunder 40series muffler. coming out the back with 2 2.25 pipes on each side of my gas tank. it sounds just amazing on the outside now on the inside it barely anything..... up at hot august nights this year i got several complements on my 67 falcon for its sound and performance alot of people were domb founded when i said its only a 200 cu six. go with flowmaster you wont be disappointed

I bought my Flowmaster 40 Delta's today ($52/ea). She'll be in the shop in the am getting the Pacemaker dual outs tied up to 'em. I'm planning to do 2" all the way from the header through the mufflers and out to chrome tips. I'll add an X pipe as well.

What tips will benefit my tone?...I love the traditional FLowmaster, low hollow tone. Should I larger than 2". Does a rolled tip vs hard edge matter? Does a little turn down tip help/hurt the sound?

I'll let you know how it turns out!

Im not sure if any of them affect tone or not. I have 3inch angle cut chrome tips. It may mellow it out a little, but Im not too sure to tell the truth. As far as tips go, go for looks, not sound.
