Mystery black things

1987 F-150 EFI.

Connected to the battery are two factory wires, with black plastic "things" inline on each wire. The "things" look like an inline fuse, but I don't think they can be replaced. If they are disconnected the truck will crank over, but will not start. I believe one wire is for the fuel pumps, the other is for the engine computer?

What are the black plastic "things"?

If no one knows, I will try to post up some pictures of them.

Some of the factory wires have fusable links. It is an area of the wire that acts as a fuse. It will burn into internaly but not melt the insulation.

If it were a fuseable link, how can I replace it? What do I replace it with?

The wires and plastic are damaged from battery corrosion, I think the connections are bad. I want a solid connection to the computer/fuel pumps.

They are not relays.

Here is a picture. I took one apart for the first time. Maybe they are just quick disconnects?

I would really like an official answer. They are not in very good condition (battery corrosion) and I am about to install an aftermarket EMS.

yes, that's all they are, quick connectors. Taurus' were famous for having them corrode. They are there for fast assembly during vehicle construction. Remove them and splice the wires. That was a TSB for a time back in the early 90's (I was a Ford Dealer tech and instructor for 12 years)
