Need suggestions on the DG

Well, I ordered the DG305 from NAPA---the guy calls me today and says "can't get that gear for ya' seems there is a national backorder on that particular part....., yea and they ain't saying when they will--if ever--get that in!" I know Mike was stocking some -- a different # I think, but I never got clarification if it would fit the "load-o-matic" or if it was the hardened one I need for the CSC I bought.

Maybe try some of the mustang type specialty places? Maybe they are the ones that cleaned out places like napa?

I figured out what DG was, what is CSC?

CSC is Couscous - you know, that Moroccan pasta dish.

Seriously, it's a Clay Smith Cam.

Not to derail this thread but.....

Are the gears differnt between cams? Are they supposed to be? Or it it just tolerances over the years?

Addo, you mentioned that Sorenson carries the gear as well in another post awhile back. I know that Sorenson is carried by several of the stores here...is there another number for it other than the DG305 that NAPA carries? I am sorry about the acronyms I work where I have to spell thinks out in detail and I like it when I can get away with the abbreviations--I forget not everyone uses them.

Okay, just called a guy I know who has a wholesale parts store---he says he has a DZ305 motorcraft drive gear. Asked him if it was the same as the NAPA DG305 he said he didn't know. Asked him if it was for the 200 inline six....He said---"I don't have anyway of giving specs for application wise---I just have the parts and sell them to the autoparts stores in the area----they have the information on what it goes to." I think I will go to a few of the the local autoparts stores and see if they carry that particular distributor gear---and see if it is to our application...if so---I may go ahead and buy it. Wouldn't you think that if it is to a later model ford it would be 'Hardened'?

Okay, the DZ number didn't work out here...So, Oreilly's looked up the DG305 and it cross-referenced to DG105 and he said it is the exact same as the DG305.........So, I bought it for $17 and some change, certainly better than the $31 at NAPA if it is "the exact same". We will see if it eats the cam or the cam eats it or both. I am sure there is some hi-po business someplace that sells a aluminum/bronze that fits this thing and if not maybe that is a product Mike can offer us someday.

We have the Crow DG-2 and DG-2A available here. They are different internal bores to suit the early and later shafts.

Not desperately cheap, but not hard to buy either. People seem to get hung up over a $1.40 phone call to another country. :?

Thanks addo, I think this one will be okay...at least for the initial startup--but I will keep a close eye on it in case the engine starts acting up. I looked at the one I have on the duraspark II and they look identical. I had to find one to put on this load-o-matic, because the roll pin got beat up on upon reinstall after cleaning....I don't know what idiot did that...but I see him every morning when I shave. I figured I might as well get the newer gear too.
