i got the 32/36 weber hooked up with a holley 0-4 PSI fuel regulator and 0-15 PSI guage on my 66 mustang 200ci. a couple of problems, the car is running rough, i tried setting the idle mixture but it's hard because the car is running so rough. i can defintely find where the car starts to die, so i back up from there and things get better but it's stil rough so it's hard to figure out where to stop. i set the idle speed to ~600/650 RPM. I have a C4 automatic tranny. then i pulled the vacuum off the dist and checked the timing. and set it to 6 deg before. btw i just installed a pertonix I and a 40kV pertronix coil. then i went back and redid all the carb stuff, and it's still running rough. one thing i notice is that i set the fuel pressure regulator to 3PSI. THen after a while the pressure drops again. so i set it up to 3 PSI and sure enough after a while it dros again. the regulator can not be set higher, it's pretty much bottomed out so I can't figure out why the pressure keeps dropping. i don't see any leaks. maybe this is the problem. i think the pressure is at 2 PSI now, and i can't really raise it much.

thanks

real rough idle with no appearant change from tweeking the carb suggests a too small dwell. When you installed the Pertronix did you gap it correctly? The other thing to do is play with the gap and see if that helps.

i used the plastic gap tool and i think it was okay. you're talking about the magnetic pick up gap right not the plugs.

here's one more thing, i put a clear fuel filter between the fuel tank and the fuel pump? when the car is running, it is not full of fuel, not even half full. is the carb being starved?

Yes I was talking about the pickup gap and not the gap on the spark plug. You still might want to play with that if you run out of things to try. I had a similar problem with a non-Ford car, and it turned out the point gap/ dwell time was too small/short. :?

As for the clear fuel filter I think some else on this board had the same issue/problem. And the end result is that it doesn't have to be full for the car to run right.

Not much help, sorry.

thanks for all the info.

i bought the carb from racetep. i've seen that page before but people here and clifford told me to just use a press. regulator? i would like to keep the regulator setup since i've got it all setup and all the pipes are in place etc.

are you guys using a weber carbs? it sounds like people have been able to use a press reg with this setup but i guess i want to make sure that this is the cause of my problems.

i'll recheck that gap too.
