doesnt do much more on the low end, i mean im not leaving a trail of rubber when i take off from a light or anything but then again it definatly gets up and gets to work alot quicker, i was going 90 today and didnt even realize it. it idles ALOT smother too. believe it or not i think i could actually get beter mpg out of it if i stay out of the secondarie bbl since its a progressive carb. hopefully i can get a choke and steel fule lines going sometime in the not so distant future, its warm nw so the choke can wait. if i was going for an "all the power i can get" set up i probably would go with a directly mounted non-progressive carb, but on the street its alot of fun and could still beat my v8 regal. obviously a cam and header would only add to the fun as well. i got a good deal from badbrad73 over on maverick.to/mmb but from what i hear this setup(carb and adapter) can be had for about $100 so for you I6 guys it might be something to look into if your not going v8. all i needed were 6 bolts and 4 nuts from the parts store, it even uses the same throttle linkage.

as for the problems
its going to need an aftermarket tranny downshift if you have an auto tranny and ive yet to put any thought into the air cleaner situation so if anyone has any ideas for that please let me know.

p.s. can anyone figure out what my oil cap came off of lol? I left my chrome one behind somewhere and needed a replacement

i just took it a few places sunday afternoon, nothing too bad, wanted to se what it could do. the air filter thing is scaring me though. have to go junkyard diggin i guess before i take it out anymore. i thinking of getting one of those flat triangular edelbrock aircleaners with the mesh screen over some type of foam. doesnt look like the famiular round style at all, im sure someone knows what i mean. i would fab up a "cold air" intake with the tube and all but they always seemed a little too "import/ricer/tuner" for my tastes

I'm going to pull-a-part thursday for the same reason.

I put one together on my last Zephyr, it did help mpg/power a little.
I pieced it together from 4-5 different cars at pull-a-part and only cost about $8-10 plus a new air filter. :D

Looks good, but I agree with the other comments.

One other thing. I don't know for sure but I've heard other guys mention this in the past: Should your oil filler cap be a breather type instead of a screw on to allow proper ventilation?

I've heard a few others mention having issues with a screw on cap (too much pressure) and blowing an oil pan gasket or some such issue so I thought I'd mention (or ask about it).

I know my 200 valve cover has the crome push on breather type not a screw on cap.

Take a look at this web page for some alternatives to a junk yard air cleaner.

Another approach is illustrated by the air filters shown on this web page. Scroll down until you see "10 inch Round Series" which include "Filters kits include adapter to mount directly to Weber 32/36 DGAV and 38 DGAS ..."

See also part number 99010.475 which is described as "Universal air filter adapter to adapt all standard 5 1/8 Holley based air filter to the Weber DGV series (Note: the Redline 10" filter and 10" super flow are supplied with this adapter.)" That universal adapter would allow you to use any standard air filter designed for use on a standard Holley-style carb with a 5 1/8 inch round air filter mount up on top.

Get one of those adapters and you could use one of the cool-looking air cleaners on this web page. (Note the sweet looking triangular one down the page a ways.)

:)

i dont know if this is a persistant problem with mustangs and falcons etc but maverick hood clearance on a 250 for an air cleaner is pretty much nothing. the hole for the hood scoop helps but its centered while the carb on an I6 is off to the passanger side. i'll have to take a few measurments before ordering anything.

i like that triangular one but it wasnt the one i had in mind. im thinking about one that doesnt have a lid like that, its just grey foam with like a chicken wire over it. no lid and no paper element with a very low profile. guess i'll have to do an image search. but definatly thanks for the links.

does anyone know what cars may have had this carb stock? for when im j-yardin'. i seen pintos were mentioned but its probably not something i caould find around here.

about the oil cap. i havent expierenced any problems, i thought the pvc in the valve cover would release enough pressure, but i wasnt even thinking about that issue when i slapped it on. the original had the breather in it though. as far as the source of my current cap, i pulled that off a 305 chebby engine lol, my oil drain plug came from the same source. dont worry. the rest is all ford :D

I don't want to tottally hijaack this thread, but are there any air filter holders that would work on an autolite 1100 that are open element (ex:The chromw ones with a top and a bottom that the airfilter sits in between and is open to the elements) i'm just wondering cause sure the stock snorkel on my 200 looks cute but i'd imagine it would flow a bit better and sound better with one like that.

I just bought and Edlebrock 10" open element. It had a standard 4bbl opening, so I chopped a peice of sheetmetal to fill the void, welded it on, and drilled a 2" hole in it for the 1100.

i hated to snorkel cuz it was big and blue on top of the engine, was blocking most of the engine viewing hahaha

dude i found out what the actual reason for the snorkel is:
"Its a giant BONG!!"

so i just bought a cheap autozone air filer and took the bottom of the original snorkel and cut a huge circle by drilling hole and grinding it smooth then painting it

it works for me and the height is adjusted by what air filer you use

i will post pictures later right now its time to eat bye

Okay, I have one more for you that might be closer to the air filter you're thinking of. You'd still need that adapter I linked in my previous message, but check out the RamFlo 1000 series air filter shown HERE.

Is that more like what you were thinking?

:)

You could also use one of their RF61058 filters which is their standard filter built to be a direct fit for a Weber 32/36 DGV or 38/38 DGAS style carb. It's one of the 600 series filters shown on that page I linked.

yes thats exactly what i was thinking about. ive only ever seen the edelbrock ones though. look pretty small and compact with plenty of hood clearance and would be able to take better advantage of the air comming down from the scoop

OK, I'm an idiot... but what carb and adapter are you using? I may be interested in doing this carb swap myself.

rbohm,

How high does that Air Filter sit above the top of the Stovebolt HW5200 carb? It looks like it might be a drop down setup but I couldnt really tell. How tall is the filter that fits in that air cleaner housing? Thanks.
