I have already read some posts on installing an ignition conversion kit. I was experiencing ignition problems and opted to install an ignitor from pertronix and a new flamethrower coil. I am not a real good mechanic but am trying to keep my fairlane up and running.
I will try to give a brief discription of what i have already done with my ignition system, after all this the car is still not running.
I have replaced the original, cracked, distributercap, put in a new rotor wich was completely worn out. I have replaced the old standard coil with a new flamethrowercoil.
I replaced the original points with an ignitor. I reconnected the groundwire from th distributerhousing to the distributer-advance-plate. I screwed the ignitor in place and put the wires through the hole in the bottom, secured the grommet. Then I put the round magnet piece in place and put on the new rotor. The distributorcap was put on as well as new sparkplugwires. I then connected the black ignitor wire with the negative side of the new ignitioncoil. Connected the original resistancewire to the coil as well as the red ignitor wire.
--At this point the car did not start, the starter engine did not even turn over.
I think that I made a mistake here, because I assumed thet my ’64 fairlane did not have a ballast resistor or a resistance wire. I have looked up the electrical plans on the internet and found the ‘pink’ resistance wire.
--I started to locate the resistance wire and after removing a part of the dash I found the red-green wire coming from the ignitionswitch to the resistance wire. So I removed the ignitor red-wire from the coil, and connected it to the 12V red-green wire wich was coming from the ignition switch. I left the resistance wire connected to the positive side of th coil. Still the engine will not turn, the starter engine does not turn over. I can hear the starter relay closing.
I don’t know wat more to do to fix this!!!

i would really appreciate it if anyone could give me some advice

Well, problem isn't your Pertronix. That has nothing to do with your starter. My guess is you have a bad starter solenoid or bad starter. if the starter isn't even spinning, my guess is bad solenoid. It's just coincidence it happened when you did the ignition swap.

You should be able to turn the engine with the ignition disconnected completely. It won't start, but the engine will turn over.

How can i identifie a bed startersolenoid?
i have already made some changes according to things i found in other posts and now the starter engine is turning, but it only for a short while. The engine doesn't start at all. this might be caused by a battery wich is at the end of its lifspan. I have made shure that she is loaded completely, it reads 12,5 volts when i check it with no load. Is there a way to test it with load, and would it mean that the battery is fallty when it displayes a strongly reduced voltage?
I am not even sure if i didn't damage the ignitor unit when i misconnected it.

Bring your battery to an auto parts store...most will test it for free (under load).

all problems are solved. I seem to have had a fawlty battery, it only tested 7,5Volt under load. Once the new one was installed the ignitor kit was working properly. remember when installing n pertronix ignitor: do not follow the writen instructions that came with the packagei! Follow the instructions given on different webforums, they work better because they are correct!!!!!
