With new replacement lifters what can I expect at initial startup?. Since they are dry will they randomly pump up and should they be lubed?.

Thanks, Powerband

Just a lifter replacement?

I used to soak them in oil before installing them, but I don't do that anymore. I just put a good amount of moly lube on the face, oil the outside of the body, and install. Then I remove the distributor and spin the oil pump to prime the system again.

On startup, I treat it like a new cam and run it in for 15-20 minutes at a high idle, 1200-1500 rpms.

I installed my lifters without priming them first. I then used a drill to prime the entire oiling system. The lifters were full of oil about 2 seconds after I got oil pressure. It happens fast.

I have always soaked in oil overnight. You can also prime them in the oil by using one of your pushrod on each lifter to escape all of the air. Tried once on a solid lifter, it don't work, Ha-ha!

One hint tho
If you have adjustable rockers don't over tighten the valve lash.. With no oil in the lifters they well colasp real easy and its hard to tell just when there is restance to set the lash. If you set them to tight you can wipe them out or the cam.. Heads up....
