HELLO ALL I HAVE A 62 RANCHERO AND I HAVE SOME PROBLEMS WITH I THINK MY CARB. ITS A 144 WITH A SINGLE STACK..LOL IT SEEMS TO BE GOING OKAY BUT WHEN I START IT IT WILL IDLE GOOD ITS WHEN I PUSH ON THE PEDAL TO GO IT DIES JUST DIES. I HAVE TO RESTART IT THEN PUMP FAST THE PEDAL THEN IT SEEMS TO GO...WHY OH WHY IT COULD BE MY FUEL PUMP ALSO HELL I DONT KNOW BUT SOMETIMES ITS A TRUE PAIN....HOPE TO HEAR FROM YA'LL SOON BYE JAKE

Sounds to me like it could be the accelerator pump needing replaced.

but, when does it do this? all the time? only when cold?

Try rebuilding the carb or buying a rebuilt one. Sounds like some sort of carb problem. Fuel pump shouldn't matter since your fuel bowl should be full. Might want to check your float level inside the carb.

Hey okay i'll use small letters, and t/y i love this forum. anyway i never thought of the acc. pump, and yes it does it all the time when i start it. that is my trid carb i have had to relace it twice then went to riverside and found a carb guy that changed the float and checked it again. sometimes also when i am driving a steady speed it will feel as if the accleration is going up and down, not a smooth ride. thank ya'll for the answers this place is great........jake out

To use a pic, or an avatar as they are called, you have to have the pic reside on a web site location. Then just paste that web address in your avatar location under preferances.

Jake,
Check your timing too, Ford sets the stock timing at 6* BTDC. Try setting it to 10*-12* BTDC.
