I have a manual choke on my 1978 250. When I am idling I have to keep the choke on. When I go down the road it won't run right choked, so I unchoke it. When I get to a stop sign it will die.

1. Checked for vacuum leak - none found yet.

2. Rechecked timing - no problem.

Any ideas?

Have you done a compression test yet? Have you been inside the carb to check for cleanness and or the float level height?

8) lets start simply shall we? start by checking the idle speed, in drive assuming an automatic, and the idle mixture. if these are correct, then check for flooding, perhaps the float level is too high or you have too much fuel pressure. next check your ignition timing for proper initial advance.

I took the top off the carb and it looked clean inside, but when I removed the low speed jet it was plugged with junk. So I cleaned it and rechecked the float level.

When I put it back together it ran great, and when I drove it, it didn't die at the corners anymore.
