New to Build

Hey all,

When I was a young man (many years ago) I did a couple of engine rebuilds on 292 Fords that came out of, and wen inot my 54 pickup... that was in my Dad's garage and with his tools... Dad is still with us, but the garage and tools are long gone...

Now I'm a handy guy and a fair mechanic whose just inherited his (Dad's) 67 convertible thats been stored for the last 15 years...

I know the drive train has to be gone thru as well as a refreash on the enterior and top... and I'm going to attempt a mid-mild (not extreme wild) motor build...

I've got the "The Ford Falcon SIX Cylinder PERFORMANCE HANDBOOK" ...which is great, but very general addressing many aspects of a build ~ great stuff, I've relearned alot...

I've looked at, and bookmarked, quite a few parts sites (like CI), and know I can get help for specific questions...

My question to you guys is this... are there any specific or targeted "how to" books that will walk me through a build... I enjoy learning about head milling and quench and the like, but for this first build, I want to do it right, do it clean, and know I'm going to get the results I plan on...

Then, I'll buy a second motor to play with... i just don't want to screw the first one up... :thanks:

8) there are books that deal with common engines for rebuilding, like the small block chevy and ford. i havent found any specifically for the ford six. but since oyu have been through an engine before, even though it was a vintage V8, you already have the needed skill set. there is very little that is different procedure wise in building any engine. you still need to look for wear and damage in the block and rotating assembly and the head. about the only thing you will need is the correct torque specs for your specific engine, and you can get those from the factory ford shop manual for your car. they are available in repro from a variety of parts suppliers like autokrafters and virginia classic mustang.

Thanks for the reply... I just feel a little rusty on diving into a motor ~ its been so long ~ I was hoping for a step by step doc that would lead me thru a specfic build ending in a "known" expectation for how the engine will perform... well know, I'll take plenty of pictures and notes when I do mine ~ there might be a book in this!
