I can tell you some tricks and what Carbs to useetc on this setup. I built a 250 a while back, normally asperated and no nitros that dynoed an honest 387 bhp @ 7800 rpm. Valves are clearing just fine. I do not think it is the offy as I'm only running the center carb. I have the out carbs blocked off. I've tried 2 different carbs. At 1500 RPM I'm pulling 15-18mmHg of vacuum. I'm running pertronix right now for ignition with a flamethrower coil. I checked my distributor and it is dead on with TDC. My carb is running a little lean because when I cover the carb partially with my hand the RPMs go up. It is running smooth at 1500RPM.

Are you still running the cheap carb it could be a bad carb. That happend to me with one of the cheap autolites It idled fine but stalled and hasitated when reved. have you run this carb on the car before?
