Well, I figured with the motor pulled apart, I had better make sure the rings aren't the problem (low compression on a cylinder or two). I popped the piston out of #2 (the really bad one). Looked ok, but when I showed a buddy, he pointed out that the top ring was upside down! The dot was on the bottom. He said that the mark is always supposed to be up. Would have been nice if the guy that helped me the first time knew that!!
I pulled all of them out to check: 4/6 were upside down!
Would upside down top ring keep the ring from seating well, causing lower compression and a bit of smoking on WOT?
