Popping and crackling when i let off the gas

Finaly got my wagon back together, Now when i let off of the gas it pops and crackles through the exhaust. It didn't do that when i parked it over the winter, So is it bad gas or worse? Thanks !!!

possibly bad gas
how does it run otherwise? mine did that and it had a bad PCV valve and the carb was out of adjustment

i think the PCV was the most change

i just had it out and now it has a slight miss so i'm going to tune it up and see what happens

Exaust leaks at the exaust manifold can cause small to large backfires throught the exaust pipe. Sometimes pushing some of the blast through the leak. If you have a rich condition, this can be worse.

Concur, I was thinking a leak at the the manifold exhaust gasket, too. Look for black soot or scorching marks.

baffles or packing in the muffler could just be deteriorated. Most any engine with wore out or no muffler will do that - gets worse with exhaust leaks as fresh air can get get suckeked into exhaust system allowing better detonation of unspent gasses.
