problem with car

this morning I drove to school and everything was fine got about a third the way there and my car, after accelerating, started spuddering and almost wanted to die on me when pressing the pedal. I pulled over and the car had a rough idle but was still idling. I turned that car off and turned it back on and it started flawlessly on a dime, and revved up on its own after starting at 750 rpm( have it set at 900 at idle) then goes down to 500 or less. I can press the pedal like for acceleration but I cant keep pedel for constant accel more like a punch when the car can still stay alive. Have all fluids, lines are checked and good, good battery and cables. I think that it has something to do with the metering jets or maybe the secondary accelerator pump maybe one of those are broken cause I keep trying to adjust the carb and nothing really changes except for the idle increase or decrease.

8) two possibilities;
1: vapor lock
2: fuel pump
i would say likely #2 is the culprit. i spent two hours on the side of the road one year when heading to a national park to work changing one, unless the pump i have in the car is new, i always carry a spare. which reminds me......
