Replacement Carb help

Im a bit of a novice when it comes to cars, but I've decided to tackle a bigger project. My 65 mustang 200-6cyl has been running rough. I started with the easy stuff (plugs,cap,wire etc..) at this helped but didn't solve the problem. The carb on the car is old and from what I've been told has been rebuilt. So over the weekend I purchased a holley carb. After comparing the two carb's they look identical but the new carb appears to be missing a linkage piece. (see the pics blue circle) Common sense tells me that I need this piece...is the new one missing it? Do I use the old one? Should I buy a new one if so what is it called? Like I said I'm new at this stuff, but thats why I bought the car, to learn. Oh yeah one more thing, do I need a new distributor with the carb?

thats the vent valve rod.

Since the whole vent valve opening is plugged on your new carb and the bowl is vented permanently into the choke horn through that brass tube, you don´t need to adapt the old vent valve rod to your new carb (autolite 1100, just like your old one)

is that silicone sealer on the power valve dome?

Yeah...I think it is silicone sealer or something like it. I couldnt figure out why that was there, and the instructions dont mention cleaning it off. My general plan of action is to take off the old carb, put the new on and then adjust as necessary. If I run into problems, I'll either take the car down to a local mechanic or have a friend look at it. ANY tips before attempting this would be helpful.
