I have taken the new in box 1v Motorcraft carb I have from the shelf and replaced the worn out Autolite on my 200 six. It works great! But, I'm not sure how the choke should be set up.
What do you mean specifically? The automatic choke pulloff, the spring tension for opening, how far closed the choke flap should be.... or all that stuff.
First question is whether you have a thermal (heater tube from the manifold), electric or hot water choke pull off.
I mean the choke butterfly mostly. That round black plastic slotted thing over the choke spring. There is no heat tube cuz of the header. I have that plugged. It still warms up though, but not as fast. The water base plate is removed.
With the engine stone cold, push the throttle to the floor for a second and then release which sets the choke closed.
Loosen the cover screws and turn until the butterfly is completely closed, tighten screws.
Then start the engine and warm fully and the choke should be fully open. After tapping the throttle a couple times to release the choke arms from cams.
Fully closed does ONE trick. It needs to pull off as well. Rising ambient heat is not enough to pull it all the way off as fast as it should. You need the pull-off in working shape. You can get a 'choke stove' that will do the job if your tube is gone. Like I have here:
It will fit on the stock manifold or headers like I have. I got it at a local speed shop but you can buy it on line from Jegs or Summit or where ever.
The other thing is that the choke flap has to be JUST in place. It wants to start coming off easily, not in a little while and you achieve that by adjusting the cover over the coiled pull off spring.
