Spec needed for comparison

Hey all!!
I am trying to put the finishing touches on my head with the new AL head and have a few bumps that I am having issues dealing with.

I am wondering how tall, on the spark plug side, the average 200ci or 250ci head is. I have a half inch difference between my old 170 head and the AL head, with the stock head being roughly 2.75" tall and the AL head being 3.25". I measured right at the front of the block on the spark plug side of the head. I just want to confirm suspicions that my old head was a bit shorter than most 200ci heads.

My second question is the Pushrod length in a 200ci, just a stock length, I tried the search function, but there is so much mess to weed through and I am in a bit of a rush to get this thing out of the garage so the '57 can have its home back for the winter.

I posted this in my "build" thread over in the AL head section, but decided I might get a quicker response here.
As always thanks for all your help everyone!!
Gerald

Howdy Gerald:

The stock 200 hydraulic lifter pushrods measure 8 5/16" tall. Best I can do right now.

Adios, David

That helps A lot. I still need to pull one of mine back out to compare. I think that FSD and I confused eachother which led to this thread, however now I am curious if there is a noticeable difference.

thank you,
Gerald

Gerald, i believe Mike had the head designed so stock valve componets would fit.

The aluminum head has a higher mounting surface for the valve cover thats why its higher.

Just to be sure at midlift of the camshaft the rocker arm footprint should be in the center of the valve.

Best of luck with your engine. Bill

This part is correct. There is a 1" diff outside measurement difference between my son's stock 200ci and my 200ci Aluminum head.(2.5" vs 3.5")

Well, I got it all figured out, I have never had luck with this style of adjustment on rocker arms, so needless to say, I made a very stupid mistake, that cost me some money, but I learned too.

Basically, I didn't allow the lifters to repump up after loosening them up during adjustment. This also forced the engine to run horribly, and REQUIRE some forty degrees of advance to run at all.
So I went back and backed all the adjusters off a good bit and am letting them all repump before I adjust them properly. That's what I get for gettin ahead of myself. Oh well. Live and learn.
