Tell me about the 262

Folks,
Do any of you have any first hand info on the 262? Would it have a lot more pulling torque for a pickup than a 223? With a 4" stroke it should. How about fuel economy? Parts availability? Hop up tips? Rumors?
Any info is appreciated,

Well, the 262 should get better milage due to the fact it is bigger & stronger. With a 4 inch stroke, it should out tork a 223 easy; performance parts are still available. I have often heard the 4 main bearings was a weak point, but those engines are made to rev slow so that should not be a issue. Those engines were generaly available in larger,heavy-duty pickups and delivery vans ect........

Howdy, I don't know what kind of vehicle you have, but I had a 63 short bed pickup with a 223,3 speed,3.50 gear and 3350 lbs this tk ran ok and would get 23-25 mpg highway! Never did find a 262, though I looked for years. Can anyone tell me how to identify a 262?I just checked stroke, and they were allways 223's.
