200 ci 6 popper 3 spd manual tranny,, when I start the car in the morning ( 80 degress out here in phoenix right now) I've got a ticking noise that goes away after about 5 minutes or so,,,no other noises and car runs great,, with no other nosies,,,,I had the head rebuilt about 6 months ago and did not replace the lifters and such,,I change the oil approx every 3 months or so... so I don't keep records, the oil gauge runs a little over the 1/2 way mark if that means anything,,,, sounds crazy but it seem to start after adding a fan shroud during the summer ( 113 degress outside at the time)

any help / info is appreciated thanks

Yep, probably just a lifter. The easy way to check is to take the valve cover off, start it up and press on each rocker. When (if) the noise stops, you've found the culprit.

What oil weight you running?

If it were mine I would be tempted to try an oil flush product or some ATF before the next couple of changes just to see if it will loosen up.

Another fix for a sticky lifter is... driving. Just use the car and over time, often the noise will go away. Cars do not like to sit around.

After sitting a while my engine had a lifter ticking that did not go away until I added some Marvel Mystery oil before my next oil change. It seemed to loosen it up and I changed the oil. Have not had any problem since.

I too am a fan of Marvel Mystery Oil. That's a great suggestion.

You mentioned adding a fan shroud. Some sounds seem to echo around a running engine. Check your fan and water pump. Make sure the fan is tight. I have no idea what kind of shroud you might have, but it may twist away from the fan when warm.

Just my 2 pesos.
