My Dad and I just tried to intstall a new distributor. About 4 hrs of messing with it, we still can't get the engine to turn over. We think it's the timing. I looked in the Chilton's manual I have, and it says for a 68 200ci 6 cyl, it should be "6B". There are two 6 marks on the flywheel. We cranked the engine until the piston was at the top, took out the distributor, moved the mark to the middle "6" at the flywheel, moved the rotor towards #1 piston (according to the distro cap), and placed the distro back. We tried to turn it on, but it wouldn't turn over. Turning the whole distro unit towards the oil dipstick (or block), it's REALLY trying to start. Puttered for a few seconds which is the most we've gotten out of it. Was I not as exact on the flywheel? Would turning it either way give enough clearance from the dip stick so that it wouldn't hit it, and I can turn the distro unit more? Thanks, we are so tired of it we might just get some friends to help...
