Trying to mount Holley5200 to a 250 2v?

I just discovered that the wonderfully worded prose I wrote regarding this weekends installation of the 2300 did not post, bet I forgot to hit submit, so you'll have to make do with this:

My brother spent half that Saturday figuring out then fabricating a piece to hold the throttle, kickdown, and cruise control cables because he wanted it just so. Then we installed the power brake booster because it was 100 degrees and he didn't want to crank it. Finally we finish about 4pm and fire it up. Out of the box it runs GREAT, smooth idle, even with the pcv hooked up. We take it out for a drive, WOW, more power than I ever thought I would have, no bog, tires chirp on change to second, I press down on the pedal and look at the speedomter as it's changing to third, were doing 70 freaking mph. I slow down, turn off onto another road, get into it, the kickdown comes in and the tires break loose. I let loose the reins then on a long straight and she just keeps pulling until the needle disappears into the dash past 100. I headed for home white knuckled grinning from ear to ear.

The throttle respose is immediate, the driveablilty is 1000% better. I have not even had to use the choke.

My opinion:

There is no comparison between the Holley 2300/350 and the H/W 5200 on an OZ head.

Thanks to all who helped me make the decision to buy the 2300, it was a chunk but worth every penny. I never expected to end up with a little muscle car.

oh, and it's stops good to, power brakes are so very nice.

YEAH WHOOO-HOO!!!!

I hope to be sharing that grin this weekend...

I knew you would like the Holley 2v insted of the Holley 5200, I experanced the same thing when I changed from the Holley 5200 to my Holley 500, the driveablilty is soo much better it's hard to explain how it can be better than the 5200 but it is!  And yes second gear rubber with a C4 automatic is no problem! Now to get the most HP check your air fuel ratio, out of the box the carb may be a bit lean and going 3 or four jet sizes up with net you a few more HP and a little more torque as well!

Get it. That is just nuts

Yessir, xecuting NOW!

That'll make it easy to tune on the dyno.

American Transmission in Jacksonville has 20 bays in use 7am to 7pm 6 days a week, they are good. They have a state of the art facility including a dyno they use to set up the tranny's. I'll give them a call.

Dyno it! It's the best money spent on improving your performance and tuning your engine. Just take some jets with you when you dyno and change them as needed, there easy to change.

Well I just ordered the kit. What I like about it is I can from the dyno get the working range of the carb lean to rich and with the turn of a screw set it for economy or power. When done this will be my daily driver which will be mostly power but there will be some extended trips also.

I think the kit is a perfect tunning tool. I did some research on valid main jets, and found the 56 to 65 zone was most common.

I was going through the old David Vizard notes on the 350 Holley 2-bbl on SOHC Pinto engines. When power is at about the 130 hp flywheel level on little 2-liter engines, jet size can be as low as 56.

My guess is the kit may just fall out of range if your engine is in a light state of tune, so please be aware of this. However, a six pulls very good vacuum, the intake plenumb is quite big, and you may find your actual jet setting may be the first 1/8 turn, in around the 60 to 65 range.

In Australia, most 200 to 202 cube sixes with this carb run in at the 65 range for main jets.

Keep us posted. Any engine mod that allows you to tune at the turn of a screw is an amzing thing.

Here's how we did the 2300 linkage...nice to have the cruise control and kickdown working again. The Lokar pieces are easy to work with, high quality.

Okefenokee:

I like the bracket you made to attach the throttle cable. I am in the process of changing my car to cable instead of mechanical linkage. I also have the aussie head with the Holley 2300.

My question is..where did you attach the bracket to? To a header bolt?

Rick

I like the way it turned out, it's attached to an intake bolt. Looks clean with nothing coming across the valve cover. We'll dress the engine bay eventually.

Do you have a pic of the other side?
How did you do the choke?

I had to remove the cable stop arm because it was hitting the shock tower brace?
I figured I could modify this one or run something lower?

I'll get a pic of the choke for you but mine did not hit. Just hooked up a manual to it coming over the shock brace. Have not had to use it yet, car runs great hot or cold as opposed to the 5200 which was terrible until the engine was hot.

Hopefully AzCoupe will have some headers to fit mine soon. I think that will be another little kick in the pants :)

I'm ready for you to fire that puppy up. I know you are.

Jimbo65,

Mine was a little too close for the kickdown to clear so I used an additional spacer that came with the head. I don't know what it is made out of, it's black, but it raised it another 5/8's, just enough. Don't know if that has anything to do with your choke clearence.

I have a spacer on mine too... but it is only about 1/2" thick... that might explain it... but I think I have a solution... not a big problem.
