I just discovered that the wonderfully worded prose I wrote regarding this weekends installation of the 2300 did not post, bet I forgot to hit submit, so you'll have to make do with this:
My brother spent half that Saturday figuring out then fabricating a piece to hold the throttle, kickdown, and cruise control cables because he wanted it just so. Then we installed the power brake booster because it was 100 degrees and he didn't want to crank it. Finally we finish about 4pm and fire it up. Out of the box it runs GREAT, smooth idle, even with the pcv hooked up. We take it out for a drive, WOW, more power than I ever thought I would have, no bog, tires chirp on change to second, I press down on the pedal and look at the speedomter as it's changing to third, were doing 70 freaking mph. I slow down, turn off onto another road, get into it, the kickdown comes in and the tires break loose. I let loose the reins then on a long straight and she just keeps pulling until the needle disappears into the dash past 100. I headed for home white knuckled grinning from ear to ear.
The throttle respose is immediate, the driveablilty is 1000% better. I have not even had to use the choke.
My opinion:
There is no comparison between the Holley 2300/350 and the H/W 5200 on an OZ head.
Thanks to all who helped me make the decision to buy the 2300, it was a chunk but worth every penny. I never expected to end up with a little muscle car.
