Turbo Heat shield

it wouldn't matter. in a perfectly sealed setup the flux of heat out of the scroll would equal the flux out of the shield. Closer is better though as it gives less surface area to radait the heat off with (granted it will get hotter then....someone run a FEA on wether closer is better or not!!!

fancy would be to find to tightly fitting nested bowls. make the outer one as shown but on the inner bowl shorten it so tha tthe lip on the top of the bowl covers the gap so that you can put some insulation between it!!

I would think some high temp heat blanket (the stick on kind) would work real good on the inside of this.

I thought about putting one of these over the turbine on my engine. But what if the altenator is directly below, wouldn't that add more heat in the general vacinity. Unless you made it go all the way around, well cut out for the turbine inlet (j-pipe). Maybe I am not understanding how the whole heatshield concept works.
Yeah Linc and I saw that on turbomustangs.com some time back. Purty neat for a bit of Walmart techno.

well, the alternator is round, you could make a shield for it, too!! Hahha!

I wouldn't worry about it. Heat radiates pretty much in all directions, I don't think a shield in one area would increase radiation in another area.

if you are getting your alternator to glow red/orange then you might have biggger problems than heatsoak from the turbo....

as noted roughly only half of the bowl is used for the heat shield. use the other half on your alternator then :D

just be careful if you go to remove ANY turbine housing bolts. they are ver yunhappy bolts that like to get down and dirty and do some BREAKdancing.
