turbo idea....

I know I am bailing on the falcon six but I came up with a motor plan.

basic turbo rebuild....forged pistons, arp rod bolts, blah blah blah....

CFI off a 5.0/5.8L crown vic....has huge injectors get them cleaned balanced. and mount on a square log sideways.

I got a guy that can weld up a turbo manifold for me cheap, or do it myself but I am kinda lazy. blow through the CFI off a T3 from a 2.3L.

run a megasquirt on the CFI and a MSD timing box with boost retard on a duraspark.

this would be a real cheap combo if you can find a deal on pistons some where. do they make a forged 2.3hsc psiton? if not a set of customs are what $120 each?

this would be a cheap setup to run on a 250 with a aod or t5 and it would haul some serious booty!!!

if anyone wants to try it I might be able to hook them up with a headerto do this.

would anybody be interested in buying a header/head/biist tube combo for this? I am bored and might make one for the hell of it...mainly I want o see someone turbo one of these the right way and make some big hp #'s

Nobody has yet found a source of forged pistons for the 2.3hsc. Neither the engine nor the Tempo they put it in had much of a performance following.

well when I did my 2.3L turbo no one made a stock 8:1 forged piston so I had to have custom ones made. they were about $100 each. but if you could find something close or a forged flatop 255 piston maybe? just need to get that compression close and chamber work can do the rest.

Racer Walsh has had 8:1 forged pistons for the 2.3L for awhile now.

Ross racing pistons has the 200/250 forged pistons listed but they dont have enough demand to stock them so they make them to order.

IIRC it was about $500 for the pistons and pins were extra. With pins it was about $600-$650

The 2.3 OHC is a different engine from the 2.3 hsc. There's lots of performance stuff for the OHC engine from Racer Walsh and many, many others.

walsch can lick my balls...I know alot of people that have had poor service from them. the sell windsor stuff first then 2.3L stuff. esslinger is the place to go for 2.3L stuff.

if someone makes a 200/250 forged 8:1 why aren't more people building turbo setups? seems almost a no brainer.

Because there aren't that many of us old fossils trying to use old technology engines.
Why don't you get to work on a project?

This may be an old topic, but the only performance parts for the 2.3 HSC was parts from a 2.3 HSO (HO version of the HSC). Your pretty much at a dead end if your looking to use that engine or parts for anything performance related.

Trust me, I know this story all to well. <g>

well looks like I might be trying to efi the inline for another project. I a line on a couple CFI donors and looking into getting a megasquirt started. will pick up some steel for the manifold after new years. I just really wish I could find a cheap 200/250 with a large valve square log head for this.

there are speciality shops that carry 2.3L ohc pistons but weisco/speedpro/KB and others don't carry a 2.3L 8:1 forged in their cats any more. now there is diamond pistons and they will do group buys of pistons for normal pricing. so if we could get some people together to build 8:1 compression forged motors then we could get hooked up with some cheap pistons.

just wait until you see the plate manifold I am working on. I might make a second in polished SS with raised fins.

It's a completely diffferent engine. The 2.3 OHC "Lima" engine is based somewhat on the 2.0 OHC "EAO" engine from the early 70s; the 2.3hsc is basically a 200 with 2 cylinders removed. The only thing they have in common is displacement. 2.3 OHC pistons are 3.78 bore not 3.68 like the 200/2.3hsc. Forged2.3 OHC pistons are as common as dirt, forged 2.3hsc pistons don't as far as anyone can tell exist.

I know they are different as I have had both engines. a 8:1 forged 2.3L OHC piston is tough to find UNLESS it is from a specality shop like racer walsh, esslinger, race engineering. 9:1 and up forged pistons are stock parts for the piston makers though. before you arguee this let me tell you I went through it all two years ago when I built my 2.3L OHC turbo motor.

My bad when someone mentioned 2.3L turbo I immediately jumped to the 2.3L OHC. Must not have payed attention.

Several pplaces can make forged 200/250 pistons. They just arent cheap. That was why I wanted to try and use 305 Chevy pistons.
