Here's the new 278/272-114* profile Will mentioned.
Mike,
I assume that's my cam card?
Well those number aren't exactly what George at Clay Smith and I talked about but they are very close. So I'll take it! The end result should be the same.
My reasoning.....intake reversion with a turbo and restrictive exhaust.
The cam we were using was Mike's 292 cam. This cam has a bunch of valve overlap. This would be great for a high winding N/A, or nitrous motor. Maybe even a supercharger. But the exhaust system needs to be very unrestrictive. Turbo motors (ours in peticular) has a fairly restrictive exhaust due to the turbo and header.
With the 292 cam the exhuast restriction (backpressure) will not allow the intake charge to fill the cyl. until the boost pressure is at or greater than the exhaust.
Kelly's Falcon acted horrible until it came up on boost, then it went great. Driving around town was an art form!
With our old 274 cam it left pretty hard. 1.6-1.7 60' times. The best we could get out of the 292 cam was 1.8-1.9. And that was after I increased the valve lash to reduce the cam duration. When I used the recommended lash the 60's would be in the 2.0 range. So we lost around .3 seconds just at the 60' mark! That's a huge difference! What's the rule....1 tenth at 60' is 2 tenths at the top end! Last time out she ran an 11.69@123.77. Her best ever MPH is 124. But the ET is way off.
So all we need to do is get the car to leave and we're in the mid 10s!
BTW...Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing the 292 cam. It's just not the right one for our application.
So I'm either going to be a Hero or a Zero! But like Bort62 said it'll at least make for a good data point! Or Kelly's going to run 10.50s!
I'll definitely post up when we get a few passes on it.
Later,
Will
