What type of oil is everybody running?

I asked my machinest about oil for my new build. He says a lot of the oils now are formulated for roller lifter style motors. The days of the flat botton lifters are long gone.
He suggests oils for high milage engines to prevent premature wear on the cam. Some of his freinds who race found out the hard way.

I'm using the Isky 256 Hydraulic SUPERCAM in my build. (if i get the time to finish it)

This guy seems pretty smart, so I'll take his advice

My Dad worked at C***y Engineering for part of his career; they used non-detergent oil for GM's "Black Oil Test" on the engines. Detergent oil wouldn't foul enough for the test. Biggest problem The General had was getting enough oil to test all of their engines!!! They finally sourced cases of of this low quality crap buy purchasing K-Mart brand non-detergent stuff!! Anyway, moral of the story, stay away from non-detergent oil.

I usually dump a half quart or full quart of ATF before an oil change. Don't drive over 50 miles on the mixture and don't drive over 50 MPH (no freeway cruising). And then dump it. I did this trick pretty regularly with my '90 SHO and the engine was real clean.

I will use synthetics versus dead dinosaur if the valve cover(s) leak. The synthetics don't burn and smoke when it hits the exhaust manifold

As for weight, I use 10W40 in the summer and 10W30 in the colder weather.

I just did my 3000 way over due service friday, and I put in 10w30 valvoline oil. Ive always liked them but I was thinking of changing again to something different cause the oil geusis at work asay its pretty harsh to put in these days. Oh well thats what Ive used since I started driving.

Oh, my. Don't use Fram filters. Your better off using some generic private label brand. Fram are the cheesiest filters out there.

its so sad and cool at the same time that the cheapest filter at wall*mart is the best one of the best there
