D7 is '77, D0 is '70. I'd say the D7 is the preferable one because of the larger intake valves and larger 'log'.
I used a D7 for my direct mount two barrel. Drastic improvement, along with my other mods, over my C8 head.
I just ordered the D7BE-6090AB Head from Hastings, NE. They will ship for $20, and guarantee it's not cracked (wish I could say the same about myself). For $20, it's less than it would cost me to drive out there, stick it in the trunk and drive back. Now the debate is whether to rebuild the Carter YF in my garage, or reinstall the HW 5200 setup. I'll have to look at the Carter linkage and decide. And then, I do have jets for the HW 5200.
D0DE would be off of a 70 Falcon or Maverick. Both are good heads.
The D7 head should already have the hardened induction valve seats. Both have the larger carb bore. There are variations in the chamber sizes and you will have to get them CC'ed. They could be as high as 62cc which will reduce your C/R. Mill them down when you rebuild to get back to 52-54 CC. Use a compression calculator on the net to see how far you want to go.
By chance did you get it from Mid City Auto Supply? That's where I got my D7 head and they had two D7's when I ordered mine a few months ago. I can tell you, when I got mine it was pretty darned clean and the shipping was really fast to my neck of the woods.(UPS Freight, IIRC) They said mine was crack-free and it was.
I didn't have any problems, other than they initially wouldn't sell it to me because I told 'em it was for a Falcon . I had to agree to a no return unless it was cracked which was cool with me, I knew it would fit, just needed a little shave for CC. And a nice slot cut in the top
