2.77 to T-5 Swap

Hello everyone,

I am in the process of gathering parts for my T-5 swap into an early 6 (2.77) application. I would like to know:

1. Who sell the correct throwout bearing for this?

2. I know that I need an 8.5" from an 83-87 4cyl Mustang, and a 8.5" pressure plate from a 65 Mustang. I would like to know if there are any Manufacturers that are better than others as far as durability and quality? I don't want to have the guy behind the counter just give me whatever is in their computer, if there is a difference.

Other than that I have the transmission and adapter plate and will fabricate my own cross member.

As soon as I get these parts, I will be on my way to my next project, either Webber 32/36 conversion or Duraspark II with GM module and Jacobs Omni-Pak.

Thanks in advance for your valuable advice.

Hello Tim,

1) www.npdlink.com has conversion kit section and should have the correct throwout bearing.

2) Just go with over the counter stuff. There really isn't much for the recessed flywheel set up as far as performance goes. In fact, I don't think there are any performance clutches for it. In all honesty though, that OTC stuff is good and usually has warranties which I like. the 9" flat flywheel from the later 200s has more performance upgrades in terms of pressure plates.

I used one for a 67 Mustand 6cyl 3speed --O'Reillys -- 3.03 has ID(inside diameter) as T5--Used clutch for 84 4cyl Mustang--used stock pressure plate

We just did this swap into our '63 Ranchero. Early E-Van bell housing for top loader, stock clutch arm. WC T-5 with V6 ratio gears. Stock 8 1/2 flywheel, Mustang 4 cyl. clutch and a reman Falcon preasure plate. We used the stock T.O. bearing. Works just great!

Input shaft was machined as it is larger then the V8 and I used a Mcleod adapter plate. Still had to make a 3/8" spacer, but used the adapter as the pattern.

Our 6 is a 200 +.030 bore with a 250 head -.040 of head and deck, Isky 262 cam and a Stovebolt HW and a DSII with GM module. This car is a blast to drive. Only have about 500 miles on the combo.

Future update will be a header............ maybe.

I just confirmed that throwout bearing and pilot bushing from a '69 Mustang with a 250 and 3-speed fits a V8 Worldclass T5 from '79 to '93 5.0. That would be the 3.03 tranny.
What I gathered is that the 4 cyl. T5 uses a different pilot bushing with a larger inside diameter, right?

I found NAPA part number 6202-2RSJ to be the correct pilot bearing for the 4 cylinder T-5 in a 200. It actually has a smaller inner diameter to match the 4 cylinder T-5 smaller input shaft snout (smaller than the V-8 T-5 and 3.03).
