All Small Six 200 valve springs

This relates to all small sixes
The 66 200 head I tried one with the mopar retainer and ford locks.
The base of the spring fit the locator in the head perfectly and the 200 locks appear to fit the mopar retainer good.

Would an umbrella valve stem seal fit under the beehive top or is a vitton seal a must?

3.3/3.8 mopar v6. Lots in the scrap yard from Caravan, Town and Country. You'll need the retainers also.

Inspired by this thread, I ordered two beehive versions from rockauto, the 4781588AC and the ERV2498. The have the same dimensions, but do not fit on an unmodified log head. The inner diameter of the base is 0.831” as stated in the datasheet, so the beehive spring that Egine Fan postet a picture of has to be a different one. To fit these springs the spring seat would need to be machined.

I also got a valve spring pressure tester and tested some springs I have at home for future reference. All springs are out of the box and unused. I measured 3 pieces of each spring, in the table you see the average numbers. The measurements at 1.67“ and 1.28“ are my specific installed and open height on my cylinder head.

These are the numbers I measured:

And it is to note that the Sealed Power springs were VERY close to coil bind, even with my low lift numbers…

I will report back on installed height of the normal one piece retainer to the beehive retainer, if it changes the installed height.

It looks like I opened a can of worms. I actually measured my installed height and it is 1.592. I do not plan on cutting the head for a greater installed height. Yes, I could use a +50 retainer if available. I appreciate all the responses. The problem is getting the springs, retainers and keepers all from the same company. The part numbers exist but the items are not available. comp cams 903 spring would work well but comp does not have a retainer for them. I plan on using the springs listed above that I measured for now. Again thanks for all the replies.

Hey alwill923, the claysmith one piece retainer (SKU: 8617-12) will work with the compcams 903 springs, I also test fitted them. They are slightly heavier than the Ford E6TZ-6A536-A but still lighter than the original retainer assembly.
Just for your information if you want to go with the 903 springs...

The Comp 903 spring will have a 111 lb seat pressure at 1.592" and 234 lbs open at .420" valve lift.

The Comp 903 spring is the stock replacement spring for the 240/300 six and fits the stock 240/300 retainer.
That's why Comp doesn't supply a retainer for the 903 spring.

I think that in the end the Crower 68147 springs with the stock retainers that you already have are the cheapest way to go even at $100.

I tested the two beehive retainers, unfortunately both don't properly fit with the standard 7° locks and reduce the installed height drastically.

Mopar changed the valve springs and retainers starting in 2001. My apologies for the misinformation. The 1990 to 2000 springs and retainers will fit.
I have updated my previous posts on these springs(4483859)or (melling VS-1282), and retainer (4483745)
The Melling spring is listed with some specs at Summit Racing

I just got the right beehive springs (Melling VS-1282), they do fit perfectly onto the cylinder head. The top part of the spring has a slightly greater inner diameter than the Enginetech ERV2498, so the Mopar 4781090AA retainer and Enginetech VSR705 retainer fit a bit loose. I'm still waiting on the 4483745 retainer to see if this one sits tighter on the spring top.

I updated the table in post #31 with the Melling VS-1282 numbers...

The 4483745 retainer fit the valve locks perfectly, but the result in a .078" lower installed heigth of the beehive valve spring compared to the normal spring.

My installed height with Ford E6TZ-6A536-A retainer and conventional spring: 1.67"
My installed height with the 4483745 retainer and the Melling VS-1282 beehive spring: 1.59"

PS: I added the weight of the 4483745 retainer in the table in post #31

Check out Melling VS-1130 or Sealed Power VS 733, both 302 springs. Edit: Nevermind, the install height is around 1.7 for these.
