So some of you know that I'm going to rebuild my engine in winter but I have to make rebuild plan first. I already decided to buy double outlet header (peacemaker or fspp). Now I think about some rebuild kit for my engine. Basicly I would like to have street/race car. It's not my daily drive so gas milage can be greater than now. I would like to increase HP. Have fun driving car and burning tires So how to start. Can you give me some kind of step by step. Write me something about your experience. This will be a long term project so in this winter will be first step and in the next - next step...
It's very important for me, because I have to order right necessary parts (remember that I live far far away )

I think some of the effort should not first be directed to your motor, but to optimise the handling and brakes of the car. When it feels "tight" and responsive to drive, every improvement to the motor will really make a difference.

So first I'd look at handling upgrades with a suspension kit, and maybe changes to the wheels/tyres. Brakes and steering usually need some attention, too. This is all expensive work, and not so satisfying compared to having oil and grease all over your arms and face...

After that, I'd look at building the motor from inside out. A new cam and timing set, then the improved carburetion.

Regards, Adam.

I already changed my front suspension (I used suspension kit), I have new tires and rims from American Racing. Breaks looks fine but I didn't convert them into disc brake. I have new shocks and steering box etc... . That was my first stage of rebuild. Second stage is in progress - paint , interior etc.. So - it is time for engine - last stage.

well if you want alot of power out of your I6 i would recommend putting a turbo on it along with everything addo said plus forged pistons and the aluminum head with the intake of your choice and a strong enough tranny to hold the power together and also an 8in rear end

Not much of a step by step...

Read some of the build threads on the Eyecandy forum. Between here and there, a lot of information is in place.

Buy the Falcon Six Cylinder Performance Handbook. It has staged performance builds, how-tos, specs, and general tips and tricks.

Six Cylinder Performance Handbook

I already read this book. I'm still confused where to start. Should I buy new head fom 80's (EOBE-BB) or 77-79 (D7BE-AB,D8BE-BA) put it with new 2bbl carb. Or make some valve job in my head C9DE -J and give a new carb. Or something else like pistons, camshaft, crankshaft. What are your suggestion. I'm really confused...

big valves are one, but not the only way to make decent power. it's all about flow and velocity, not just raw cfm alone.

Since you're living in a country where parts are scarce, I'd use whatever is available at the time, which means to stick with the cylinder head that came with the car.

For starters, put a generic 2bbl on your log head (direct mount), open up exhaust pipe diameter to 1.75" or 2" (avoid sharp bends - imagine you were an exhaust gas molecule trying to escape as quickly as possible, with as few obstacles as possible in your way) and advance timing a little.

From there, you can decide if you're happy with that lil' extra power, or if you need more and want to go further.

Future steps would include headers and camshaft (sourcing in Poland?), and while you're at it, a valve job (three-angle and backcut)

Also, what transmission and axle ratio do you have?

Yeah it's true. I realised that my polish friend is now in US and he can send me some parts with his stuff. It's extremaly important to me to chose the right parts for my rebuild.

And can be always added :)

What do you mean generic ? Can I make direct mount on hex logo ?
open up exhaust pipe diameter
I plan to start with this upgrande. I want to buy header from FSPP/Peacemaker, dual outlet.

It's gonna be funny but I don't know how to check it (Is something about this in six performance handbook ? I didin't read chapter about this stuff, I'm gonna to take a look at this chapter today). I heve 3 speeds manual gearbox.

Simon, do I have to change something else with camshaft ? Can other things stay stock?
