My young mind can't grasp the idea of getting better gas mileage out of a 2bbl than a 1bbl. In my head a bigger hole means your gonna suck in more gas, smaller hole less gas. What am I missing?

Remember two SMALLER holes versus one BIGGER hole. The two combined are larger than the one, but you'd not going to be using both unless you're punching it. As long as you drive normal and relaxed, the second barrel won't be opening very often, thus using less gas.

Spence, you are right, but only if you are using my driving style as a guideline, for ME a one barrel gets better gas milege, but thats just cause WOT is way too fun!!!!
But yeah, 2v wont really be running both at the same time till you romp on it, and like weeds said, the autolite 1v really sucks (figuratively and litterally)

It's all starting to make sense now, thanks for the clarification guys! :D

Hi spences66six,

One small point, all of the above posts assume you use a "progessive" carb., i.e., Holley-Weber 5200, Weber 32/36. The throats in the Weber 38/38 and the Holley 2100 / 2300 series open at the same time, i.e., "synchronous". The progressive carbs are good for mileage as the small throat is all you will use until the throttle is open 70%+. These carbs also help low rpm torque as the keep intake manifold velosity high at low rpm.

Just to help your planning process, the Holley 5200 and the Weber 32/36 (DGV series), are the same carb. Holley built the 32/36 under license from Weber. Best place to get one is Stovebolt. You will need and adapter, best one is Clifford. Your 66 came with a "vac only" advance distributor so you will need to get a dizzy with a mechanical advance (sometimes referred to as dual advance - 68-73 stock with "single vac advance") or DSII with single vac. I see you have the Pertronix system (I like mine), maybe you have the dual advance dizzy (mechanical + vac advance) already?

Steve: How would I be able to tell if I have the dual advance dizzy? When I bought the car it already had the ignitor in the dizzy( found that out by thinking i'd up grade to and electronic ignition, popped off the dizzy cap and saw that i already had one! I fealt pretty dumb after that. :D ) SO i dont know if the dizzy's been upgraded yet. And how much would a dual advance dizzy cost?

Thanks for all the input, Spence

Hi Spence,

The '66 200's came with a vac advance only dizzy that was controlled by a valve in the carb. If you have the autolite 1100 and a dizzy with two vac ports you have the Load-O-Matic. The dizzy you need is referred to as the dual advance unit as it has both mechanical and vac advance. I understand that these were availably with a dual vac unit also, but I have not seen one. I ordered mine from Mustangs Unlimited. The one you want was used from 1968 to 1973 (first DS was used in 1974). I ordered a 68 single vac unit. Cost $65. Nice unit.
