I read something about converting to a diaphram pressure plate from a mercedes? What all is required to do this conversion? What year model mercedes is the pressure plate from? Do I use a stock friction disc, or do I need to get a matching mercedes one as well? are there any benefits to going this route?

Thanks for all the help!!!

With my 8.5" stepped flywheel I used a 215mm alfa romeo pressure plate (1969 - 199?, 1750 and 2.0l). I had the flywheel rim face trimmed .15" .

Disregard the bit of S-10 T.O. bearing info unless you are using GM S-10 T5's like I am.
Somebody on the forum has used the 215mm mercedes PP as well.
20,000 miles on my alfa plate so far, works great!
Shop around, prices vary $75 - $400 for the exact same plate.

All the bolt holes lined up exactly.
I felt the need to put one size larger ARP pressure plate shoulder bolts in, so I drilled and tapped the original holes anyway. Probably overkill.

Where can I find the ARP bolts, or could I just use some grade 5 or 8 bolts from my local hardware store? This wold solve my problem of already haging one oversized bolt holding my PP on. (done by a previous owner)

Any Napa should have them. Make sure they are labeled pressure plate or clutch cover bolts, and that they are shoulder bolts. They locate the cover on the flywheel and have to be an exact fit, or else you get horrible vibration. Since you have to have the flywheel trimmed a bit and surfaced anyway, have the machinist get the bolts and tap holes as well.
