I went the cheap route. I already knew I had to mod the alternator with a 289 mounting bracket to clear. But I also ran into a conflict with my starter. I modified the cover and then applied a heat deflecting sheet to cover the hole and to provide some insulation between the starter and header. See pics.

Looks like they sold out, but here's what I purchased.

When you install the header lift up the rear of it before you tighten the bolts. You can heat the # 6 pipe with a torch then dimple it. Smash down to maybe about 1" or so or until you get the clearance you want. The header pipes are way bigger than the exhaust ports and a 20 hp cylinder doesn't need a 1 1/2' header pipe . https://fordsix.com/threads/cheap-easy-starter-heat-shield.83388/
