Im talking to a guy about a straight 6 out of a 1980 mercury zephyr. He says its a 200 straight six,and all the resources I have found say they only came with 4cyl,200 6 cyl,and v8's. i just want to confirm this from someone else so I know I have found the right motor. I know it should have 5 freeze plugs and 3 bolt water pump, but It's 70 miles away and he's not good with a camera. Anybody who can help I would appreciate it thanks.

The Mercury Zephyr straight 6 is the same as the Ford Fairmont straight 6. They are both the 200 cid inline 6 cyl, or 3.3 liter is the metric designation. IIRC 1980 is the changover year from high mount starters to low mount starters. You should definitely check on that for compatibility for trans hookup. The high mount was the norm for many years. The low mount was moved down to the oil pan line, about the same area as a 250 or a SBF V8. It will have the double sump oil pan and corresponding oil pickup. If you are getting it for an earlier car, you will have to swap to the center sump oil pan and pickup. Hopefully someone will chime in that has pictures of the differences.

I can echo superford, yes the motor could be a 3.3 I6.
As to whether or not it has a high or low mount starter only a picture will really tell.
Or more info from the seller, but my bet is that it will be a high mount.
