Back to the dyno

Just as the title states, I went back to the chassis dyno to do some more tuning. I have been trying to get the air/fuel ratio where it should be at WOT as it has been way rich. Due to time constraints I only got 4 pulls with doing some minor adjustments in between. Some helped and some didn't but my best pull was 162.93 hp and 198 foot lbs of torque. I got the air fuel at WOT up to 12.3 to 1 and ran out of time.

I'm sure this is a dumb question, but....
When you talk A/F ratio, does that mean (in your case) 12.3 parts air to 1 part fuel? In my pointed little head it seems waaayyy rich.

Gene, good to hear you are headed in the right direction.. sorry I was no help with any suggestions when we chatted at the track.

162 hp at the rear wheels... plus a 75 hp shot of nitrous might add another 60 hp at the wheels

Yes 12.3 parts air to 1 part fuel...and you are right it is rich but not waaayyy rich...at WOT the optimum ratio is 12.8 to 13.1 and WOT is what I am talking about. I have been struggling with getting this piece of tuning where I want it. At idle and cruise I am pretty much in the sweet spot.

Yeah, that would definately put me in the 14's...I ran 15.30's today at Speedworld.

Gene,

What was your HP and Torque on your 1st pull? Did you gain more or were you just focused on improving your A/F ratio?

Good job! :D 8)

Later,

Doug

Actually those numbers were the first pull. When I made adjustments to the pvcr and got the better a/f ration the hp dropped by 1 but I chalked that up to heat soak.

awesome Gene great run!!! just 3 more hp to your goal!!! almost there just a hair more...

if the car sat any between runs I would think it's cooling off not heating up.

Sounds like you are back to where you were ET wise ...

I was at Speedworld this evening. Talked to some folks that watch you run the Maverick today. They were impressed with the runs. The one gal had a Maverick when she was younger

I ran 15.80's out at Speedworld this evening. The 3.55 gears slowed the car ET near 4 tenths. Mph is near the same.

I thought the night open racing would be lite , like the last time. It was a huge crowd of import FWD cars tonight for some event.

Gene, congrats on the win yesterday aswell! Also the class designation:"G" should stand for "Genes' " bracket instead of the other LOL as you pretty much own that bracket

Gene, did you win your bracket?
If what we disscussed about friday doesn,t get your A/F up enough, you can take the fuel bleed out to .034"
Doing that will lower the venturi signal & you may have to up the pvcr from what we disscussed.
Remember to drop one main jet size to get your cruising ratio to 14.5.
Your mph is the true test of HP.
If you have the traction slip a 4.62 gear in it. Bill

Yes, I won the bracket yesterday. Car was very consistent and I was cutting good lights on the tree. Wow a 4.62 gear would be nice but tuff driving on the street. I have 3.55 gears now with a detroit locker. Traction is usually good but I did experience a little tire shake on one run leaving the line.

Gene, are you running cal-tracs or slapper bars??
Might need more shock.
Cal-tracs seem to be the best on a leaf spring car.
A 4.62 gear with 25" tires would get you close to 94 mph & 6000 rpms.Yea kind of brutal driving on the street. Bill

I'm running traction master bars...they bolt to the u-bolts and attach at the front by a bracket that is welded to the frame rail.

6000 rpms is way too high for my 250...power drops off about 5000 rpm

Tony, what gears did you have in before. Is the gear change the only difference that caused the 4 tenths in et?

I previously had 4.11 gears. The 60 foot times slowed to 2.3 area from 2.15

MPH was near the same with 3.55 gears when compared to runs with 4.11 gear .
