After skimming through the 100MPG thread just wondered whats your best in the small 6s and what was done to the engine.

My 4door Falcon has a 170 [85,000 miles on it at the time] , a re-jetted 1904 144 spec. carb with an oiled cotton type air filter , generator , 3 spd , 3.10 rear gear and 175/80/13 radials set at 30 psi . On an about 250 mile mostly hwy trip with 2 persons , about 200 lbs of stuff , maintaining 60-65 mph ; it got 32.7 mpg on regular alcohol laced gas . There were no special lubricants or aerodynamic aids and a head wind and light rain part of the way . I always drive with my lights on and the radio was playing .

8) three different cars with the ford small six, 2 170s and one 3.3l, all averaged right around 19-21 all the time. all were stock with the exception of a two barrel upgrade to the 66 falcon 170.

You can see my mods below.

If I'm easy on the gas, I can manage around 27MPG on the highway, and 22 on my daily commute. Problem is my daily commute is full of twisties and fun, so my mpg is closer to 20. Which isn't that bad...but considering my 5000# minivan gets that...wow...how technology has advanced.

I'm working on EFI right now, hoping that will squeeze a little more out of it.

Nice mpgs! That's TN, now. Was it out by Alabm, or over by NC (& headin down hill all the way)?
8^0

The trip was from Jackson , TN to Southaven , MS by way of Memphis ; I-40 to I-240 to I-55 . Outbound was about 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. - running into rush hour traffic . The return trip was about 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. ; that was when we encountered some light rain and a headwind . There are moderate elevation changes along there but no mountains . The event was my 40th high school reunion . The Falcon was in a show in Jackson that same day and there was no time to return home and swap cars so off we went . Did I mention no cruise control just my somewhat steady foot ?

"...somewhat steady foot..."
