I know this question is pretty simple however

Which of the cams offored by FSP offer the best usable improvement to the performance of the engine as a daily driver

I just dont know which one to order for my 200.

The Engine has the orgnial Autolite 1100 which is about to be re-built and hopefully modified to help produce a little more power

I plan to buy Headers down the line, and possable switch to an alluminum head in a year or so.

What transmission do you have & what rear end ratio??

I'll be happy to advise. William

The camshaft if you don't mind a slightly rough idle would be the 264-264 with a 110 lobe center advanced 2 degrees.

If you want a smoother idle use the same cam with a 112 lobe center.

With this camshaft you need to get the compression at least to 9 to 1.

If you want to stay with the 1100 carb get one from pony carbs with the larger venturi & get a 68 up centrifigul advance distributor @ use full manifold vacuum at idle for better performance & idle quality.William

Outside FSP (no dig to Mike, I love his stuff just look at my car):

the COMP CAMS 260H is a nice cam. Increased lift, similiar specs, but idles very smooth. I ran it with an autolite 1100 with 2.77 and 3.20 rear end and loved it. Loved it even more with a T5.

If you don't mind a rough idle & plan to install dual outlet headers with a crossover or x-pipe & more carburetor lets go one step further & get the 264 FSPP cam with a 108 lobe center. This will pick up your low end & top end.

Mike what do you think??

This cam will really lower your engine vacuum at up to 1200-1400 then the engine will come alive after that rpm range. William

The Alpine has a pretty rough idle with 270 degrees of duration on both intake and exhaust its a little hot sucker.

Prefferable for the cam choice im looking for good useable rpm's from 1400+ if that cam will supply me with good useagle torque at 1500 rpm, i would see no reason why i cannot use it.

Would the Autolite 1100 feed it enough?

What is an alpine?? You stated the advertised duration, but what is the duration @ .050 & lobe center.

Just trying to advise you. William

Adam, my bad, I now see he also owns an alpine.

I feel you really need more carburetion than a 1100 carb. You really need a direct log mount of a 350 holley or a compatible holley-weber for the 108 lobe center to be effective.

If you chose the even modified 1100 the 110 lobe center 264 would be your best choice. Willaim

For now this is on a budget. I have enough for the cam so i can finish the engine and the header.

The Rancher will be no sports car. But like I've said, im looking for a good near stock application cam that offors the best improvement for what setup i have available to me.

From the posts it seams that the 264 with 110 or 112 is the best option.
