Can someone give me an idea on this?

How hard and how long would it be to make a head swap for a '68 200 i6 cause i want those new heads. I have to add that i have fairly adequate tools for engine work though not very much experience.

Just swapping heads is a less-than-one day event. What will take longer is the new carb linkage, fuel lines, exhaust....the little details.

One word of caution to those considering this...it would be foolish to put a hipo aluminum head on an worn out engine with a stock cam. Make it part of an overall game plan and you'll be better off in the long run.

Very well said, A engine is the sum of ALL of its parts each and every one of course some are more important than others but just think what happens if there is bad connecting rod bolt or even the nut.

not to mention you will have to pull the head to swap the cam out later on anyway.....might as well do it all at once

Yeah, dont do too much to a tired motor, or youll tire it out even faster...trust me. But now Ive learned my lesson and will no longer have a tired motor with the TONS of goodies goin into it Head swap is easy, I did it no prob and it only took me and a couple buddies a couple hours. Take pictures of all the linkages, fuel lines, hoses etc...oh, and drain the coolant a bit if I remember correctly (you can do like me and NOT drain it, and it will do it on its own, lol)

Thanks guys i am only planning this when an engine rebuild is in order, but right now the 68 is running strong.

I would suggest a helper in pulling the head off. it is killer on the back

I pulled a head Fri and it took me an hour. And this a 78 200 with all them hoses and stuff.
Of course it's a lot easier when the engine is sitting on a pallet next to the tool box. Lifting off the head is a piece of cake when you don't have to lean over a fender or radiator.
