carb swap?

Hey all.
Ok I have been looking at all the differen't carbs, carb adapters and such.
Got a question. I have a 302 from a 82 Merc. in the garage, keeping for a rainy day, anyway, the carb is has displays motorcraft 25 on it and a number I found on the side is 1.08. I think the 1.08 is the stock jet size?? any way its a 2bbl so I was wondering if it would be a good swap for the old stock carb on a 200. Also should I get an adapter from Summit or from Clifford. what is the differnt sizes of adapters refering to?
I have also seen talk of throttle cables vise the stock throttle rod stuff, where should I look for one, and how would you connect / route a throttle cable in place of the old rod system??

Can you post a pic of the carburator? I don't know if you can do the swap or not or what those #'s mean but I would like to see the carb. Someone here will recognize it and will be able to give you more info for the swap.

There are several different swaps regarding throttle cables, brackets, linkage and throttle pedals and accelerator rods, you will probably want to peruse the forums for pics... to get an idea. I have several different cables and brackets I have pulled off of cars in the yard and still haven't decided which one I will use yet...Do you plan on an Auto Trans or Man.?

Here's a cool setup:

Howdy,

The 1.08 on the carb refers to the venturi size of the the carb. A 1.08 has 287 cubic feet a minute (CFM) airflow.

A ballpark figure for your one barrel (assuming an Autolite 1100) is 185 CFM - so this carb would be a nice boost after doing some tuning.

The choice of adapters depends on how handy you are. The Summit cost less and takes more adapting. The Clifford cost more and is pretty much a bolt-on.

Clifford will use the factory linkage with some bending, but you'd better plan on a cable for the Summit. One out of a mid 70's Maverick is a nice fit.

For the size of the adapter it DEPENDS on which head you are using. Go look at the numbers/letters cast on the top of the manifold between the carb and the firewall. If you have C5DE 6090-A or C6DE 6090-B then you have the stock head. If it is not these numbes, report back and tell us the numbers. You stock head has a 1.5" intake bore hole. Later heads, 1969 D9 and up, use a 1.75" throttle bore hole and thus a different adapter.

Good Luck

I use a 108 on a Clifford adaptor on my 200. (center carb of a progressive tri-carb setup) They are a good carb -hard to find jets for- provides plenty of fuel for even a modded 200. They are a little touchy about trash related problems which in these old cars tends to be an issue unless you do a complete fuel system clean and flush. However the top can be taken off, the trash removed and the car running again in 3-4 minutes with just a leatherman type tool. Perhaps not an over the top performance carb but an excellant daily driver type.

Autolite 2100s are arguably the most reliable 2V carb every made. They don't have the infinite tweaking available to them like HOlleys, but they are solid carbs.

For cable, I wanted a stock look on the interior. basically, I bought a cable kit and a V-8 throttle pedal. Here is the last time I took pictures of the set up, so it has been cleaned up some since then.

When you say adapting is it the linkage for the throttle?
Has any one used the Transdapt from Summit with out issues? I am curious the pros and cons on the adapters. I figure I am switching to a cable for the throttle anyways so that is no big deal.
Does the low profile of the Transdapt hurt the flow into the 1 bbl port?

I have the transdapt adapter... no complaints here. bolted right up with the carb facing in the right direction (need to use the factory spacer too) and no clearance issues with a low profile air cleaner, you will need a cable throttle though and I dont know aobut the flow?
