i know there are alot of references to this in rescent posts but i just want to know some simple questions. i have an autolite1100 on top of a 200ci from an early 80s head. i want bigger carb but want it to be a bolt on upgrade no cutting adn such. what carb can i upgrade to that i can find that arnt 300 bucks and is a 1 barrel with better cfm? thanks in advance

Carter YF is a good upgrade. I think it's YF, that or RF, I'm sure someone remembers which is which. I have one of both, but can't keep the names straight. The Carter is basically a 300CI carb IIRC.

Carter YF -- will cost you a lot less that 300 too. But the trick is to find one that is in good shape and tuned up. Keep in mind that the bolt spacing is a little wider on the carter YF, but most of them have had the bolt holes widened if they have ever been remanufactured, so that they can fit on earlier narrower intakes made for the Autolite 1100/1101

Remaned Auto choke YFs seem to be on eBay constantly, usually for under $30 -- a bargain. Manual choke ones are harder to find and less likely to in good shape. I got one though and dropped onto my 240 (to replace 1101) and was very pleased.

One option is to pick up the correct carb off of ebay. verify that it will fit, and then send it to ponycarbs for a high end rebuilt. That goes for $240, but you would be assured of having it well tuned and working.

Or get a $15 kit and play with it -- the 1bbl carbs are pretty simple compated to 2 and 4s.

ifound z couple on ebay let me know what you guys think is the best deal? they are all pretty cheap and most of them are rebuilt

this one has an electronic choke on it ^^

so they all seem to be the same some say rebuilt by holley some say specifc rebuild options so let me know which one you think would be a good deal. and good for my aplication

I don't like any of the mid to late 70's carbs. Notice the extra port coming out from the right of the fuel line input. What is it? I don't know. They were putting ports to do this, ports to do that right and left on the carbs. I am not sure if those 70's carbs are feedback carbs or not, but you are going to be left with the question of what to do with those ports. Plug em up? Maybe they need to draw to work?

For that reason, my vote would go for the late 60's 240/300. I take it you want an automatic choke. Does your exhaust manifild have a heat chamber for the hot air choke tube?

I'm needing more information before I can make a decent recommend. Do you have mechancal linkage, or cable? If you have mechanical and want to maintain it, look for an 1101 Autolite for a bolt on with linkage and air cleaner. I'm assuming that the Autolite 1100 you have is from a 200???

If you are willing to upgrade to cable linkage and pedal, then either a 250 Carter YF or a 300 YF will be a slight increase in performance and a nice increase in idle quality and transitions. The 300 will take some specific tuning to get a good idle and tip-in.

i have a mech linkage , auto choke and i want to stick with that i also have to hole in the exhaust manifold for it. i dont want to have to change anything but i want the best upgarde possible for this motor

Given your perameters, I'd recommend an Autolite 1101 Used on '69 250 engines in the FoMoCo fleet. It is very similiar in appearance to the 1100, but a 1.20" venturi as opposed to a 1.20" in the 200 engine 1100's. CFM differences at 185 for the 1100 and 210 CFM for the 1101. That is a difference you will notice. It will take a very trained eye to recognize it as not OEM. You will lose the Spark Control Valve for your Load-A-Matic, vacuum advance only distributor. You can upgrate to a later distributor (Best choice), or you can use manifold or ported vacuum (users of both have reported varying results), or you can increase the initial a bunch and run without vacuum advance (NOT a good idea, either for power or economy).

You may need to enlarge/taper the spacer under the carb to clear the larger butterfly of the 1101.

Your linkage, Choke heat riser and air cleaner should be a direct bolt on.

ok cool i have a spare carb spacer just in case too. that will robably be my best bet the 1101. i am also upgrading to the duraspark ignition so i dont think il need the vacuum advance line thansk again brian

The duraspark will have a vacuum advance as well, which will hook up to the 1101 nicely.

I was unaware about the mechanical linkage. I will note -- the Carter YF and my 1101 on my pickup were very similar in the accellerator linkage area. Essentially a direct bolt up. But I have a cable accellerator setup.

CZLN6 -- didn't you mean a 1.29" venturi on the 1101?

Good luck finding 1101 for a 250. I have a search set up at ebay for 1101 carbs and I never seem to see them listed. I think you can get 1101 for Ford pickups (65-67 ford 240 and 300 engines), but I am not sure that the linkage is what you need. Maybe just a remaned one for a 250 would be the best bet.

ok then with that said i have an old 79 pickup with a 300 six in it what kind of carb is that ? and could i use it ?

Every now and then on ebay, Mac's Antique Auto Parts tries to sell a 1101 for a '69 250. You might want to check with them.

Most auto parts stores should be able to get a remanufactured 1101 carb - just be very specific in what you ask for (and make sure they order the right one - BTDT  )

I think a 79 300 in a pickup would have a Carter YF, but it has feedback (polution) stuff that would complicate matters. But you could pull it and see what happens.
