All Small Six change from autolite1100 to weber 32/36 help

This relates to all small sixes
hello to all, i am a new member and seeking advise.
i replaced an autolite 1100 1 barrel carb on my 66 mustang 170 6cyl with a weber 32/36 2 barrel. had to put adapter plate between manifold and carb.
got everything hooked up and new linkage on . and when i start the car up it starts right up but goes directly to very high rev. without even touching gas pedal have to shut it off before it blow's engine. i do not have any idea how to correct this issue, any help would be appreciated

Welcome and sorry I somehow missed this post!🫣
Sounds like you need to start by just backing out the throttle stop screw. Just in case- it is a screw on the carb throttle shaft that stops it from rotating- adjusting the idle speed 👍

start simple checking:
.
LOOK down carb barrels be sure throttle blades are actually closing with linkage operating correctly not preventing full carb shaft return/closing. Disconnect linkage to verify if you can.
.
High speed race on start COULD indicate large vacuum leak - Manifold to carb adapter - flanges and gaskets should be checked carefully for any vacuum leak voids . 2X1 carb adapters are always suspect.
.
Swapping over to the 32/36 will provide better low speed and cruise response with the 32 side of the progressive carb , and a little more power as 'bigger' than OEM 1Bbl with 36 secondary opening up.
.
have fun
.

Simple things first👍. New carb and linkage. Make sure throttle plates are not being held open by linkage being out of adjustment (that was probably done when hooking it up ). Make sure the carb is wide open when the peddle is and carb is closed when you are not “mashing down on the long skinny pedal”. (Tribute to the great #2 Rusty Wallace!!) then back the idle screw out till there is clearance between the screw end and throttle stop, then crew in in 2 turns to start with. Start engine and adjust as needed. If it still won’t slow down then we can look for vacuum leaks👍

ok i think i got it figured out, took top off of carb and reset the float, it was filling up carb with way too much fuel. so now not acting like its gonna rev to high to blow motor, now just tinkering with it to get fuel /air set right.
thanks all who responded

Do you have a fuel pressure regulator installed? The fuel pump puts a bunch of pressure on the carb and the Weber is only good for maybe 4lbs before it’ll be overwhelmed.
