up until now, my stang has kept a constant water temperature of 180* but recently the water temperature is starting to read a little higher but not going higher than 190*...sometimes its just over 180*, other times its at about 185, and even some times it would almost get up to 190*...this may not be bad but if i see something out of the norm. i just have to ask if it a problem...ive checked the coolant, it was a little low but not bad and filled with water...any help or ideas???

Mine is running @ around 185-195 here in San Luis Obispo. It is starting to get warmer here so I assume it is getting warmer in socal. I was there last weekend for a graduation ceremony and it was really warm.

Other than that...I don't know? Mine has a 2row rad, shroud, flex fan, water wetter...185-195 OK?

I changed my thermostat to 180-185 degrees. I have a two row radiator and it seems to hold up just fine. The only problem I have is when I'm in heavy traffic for some time. I just watch that temp gauge slowly start creapin up. I wonder if a shroud would help that out?...ZZ

180-195 is actually perfect... expect in long sitting situations to go up to 195.....

now if you were going up to 200 or over then you might have a problem, but that sounds about normal for hot conditions....?

I run a 180 stat and 3 row radiator in the summer in ATL, GA and I have added a shroud and 17" fan and still can get to 190-195 on really hot days..... usually it stays sround 185 though.....

Another thing you can do is check the thermostat, either by using a candy therm in the radiator as the stat opens and read the temp of the water exiting the engine, see if it opens around the right temp..... sometimes they can be wrong, if your stat is not new, could be wearing out?

Some ideas....

can it be that i recently chaged over from 10w40 to 10w30?...just a thought

When was the last time you changed the coolant? May be time. I don't think the vicosity change in the oil is the problem.

i havent changed changed the coolant in a long while...i have just added some water or some coolant when needed...do you think the antifreeze percent is more than the coolant percent???

Coolant is cheap enough. It cetainly wouln't hurt to flush the system, and put a new coolant mix in. In this climate you should be fine with a 50/50 mix. I would try that before anything else. The 5 or 10 degree fluctuations are not really out of the norm, however if this is a change from your cars norm, the thermostat may be intermittantly sticking. I would also change to a new stat as well. If you have a healthy cooling system otherwise, and haven't made any changes to the engine, such as timing, mixture adjustments etc, you should be fine. You can also check and make sure the the belt to the water pump is not slipping. I don't think you are dealing with anything major here.
